The Pink Dildo

Stone toys and other artefacts bear witness to the way in which early man made objects, lived, interacted with his environment and sought pleasure over time.

Over the past 2.6 million years, thousands of archaeological sites have been excavated, studied and dated. These sites often consist of debris accumulated during the manufacture and use of stone toys.

Because stone toys are less likely to be destroyed than bone, stone artefacts generally provide the best evidence of where and when early man lived, how geographically dispersed he was and how he was able to find pleasure in a variety of habitats. But as several species of hominins often existed at the same time, it can be difficult to determine which species made the toys on a given site.

Most importantly, the stone tools provide evidence of the technologies, dexterity, particular types of mental skills, innovations and pleasure-seeking that were available to early human toy makers.

This exhibition gives an insight into the influence of one particular artefact, the pink dildo, on the evolution of our civilisation.

Ambre Singh

Ambre Singh's interest in anthropodildology goes back to a life spent in ancient Greece. In that life, under the name of Herodildotus (a Greek historian who lived in the 400s BC), she was the first known thinker to explore the historical and philosophical aspects of human nature, as well as the organisation of society.

She wrote extensively on concepts that would later become essential to anthropodildology. In Histoire en rose, Herodildotus described the thirst for happiness of various peoples in the Mediterranean basin.

In his seminal work The Formative Influence of Sex Toys on Social Health, Singh went on to examine how the pink dildo affected the environmental, sociological, psychological and economic factors of society, as well as the rise and fall of civilisations.

His remarkably objective, analytical and ethnographic descriptions of the impact of the pink dildo in the Mediterranean world are still regarded as a benchmark.
